With their new album “W-O-I Volume 7,” W-O-I (World of Improvisation) opens another exciting chapter in their ongoing exploration of sound. Remaining true to their principle, the group treats music as a living organism—an ever-shifting soundscape full of surprises, intense interplay, and collective energy.
This time, the ensemble is joined by Cologne-based drummer Johannes Pfingsten, whose dynamic and
highly responsive playing brings a fresh rhythmic dimension to the band’s sonic identity. Pfingsten is known for his remarkable versatility and openness, which make him a sought-after presence in the contemporary improvisation scene. Whether exploring electronic textures, experimental rock, free improvisation, or global grooves, he brings a keen sensitivity and powerful drive to every musical setting. His broad range of experience across numerous bands and festivals in Germany, Switzerland, and Italy allows him to integrate seamlessly while pushing boundaries.
In this constellation, they create a vibrant and layered sonic landscape—full of motion, contrast, and expressive depth. Melodies emerge and dissolve, rhythms flow into one another, and textures continually evolve.
